Norfolk County will miss you Kate!! I know I’ll miss listening to you razz Jerry in the mornings, but mostly I’ll miss your laugh.

Some of the distinctions make sense: Yes, I would believe that women who take their husband\’s names tend to have more conservative values, as a generality. It is tradition, and you need to have a bit of a liberal streak to break with that kind of tradition.

Yes, I believe that women who keep their own names will, on average, earn better. But the causality is reversed. Professionals - high earners - with a budding career or established reputation, whose jobs require them to bring in their own clientele, will often opt to keep their own names simply because it\’s easier in context of their careers.

(Note the qualification that it\’s an averaging. There are lots of high earners who take their husbands\’ names, and lots of low earners who don\’t. My hypothesis is that proportionally more of the high earners will opt to keep their own names, resulting in a small overall difference in statistical averages. It\’s a pretty useless stat, really.)

But \’more intelligent\’? There is no objective quantification of intelligence, and so to suggest that one group is more intelligent than another is simply demeaning, without any merit whatsoever.

Although I share your skepticism and I have to admit I’ve never tried this MRS stuff, but just because the government website you read says it is of no benefit for knee pain, that doesn’t really mean it can’t reduse muscle inflamation… I wear a magnet for neck pain and maybe its just a placebo, but I tell you the thing works! (ps I also love my chiropractor and don’t ever leave her office without feeling much better) I asked my family doctor about the chiro - and he said It’s not really going to heal my back in the long run, but he agrees it releases the tension… which is what I want.. Anyway, those are just my two cents!

I’d like to point out to the readers out there that MRS and MRS 2000 is a brand name for a specific machine, as well as the fact that there are similar, competing machines out there as well.

The “clinical” name for the therapy is pulsed electromagnetic energy treatment. Armed with this information it took me all of 10 minutes on google to find this link http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1522019/.
Which, in short, offers this nugget of information: “Pulsed electromagnetic energy treatment offers no clinical benefit in reducing the pain of knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review”.
Looks to me like this woo woo “therapy” is right up there with crystals, ear candling, dowsing, accupuncture, homeopathy,chiropractic, reiki and every other worhtless “natural”, ancient or eastern remedy you’d care to mention.
