Some nervous parents in Norfolk this morning. Thousands of four and five-year-olds across Ontario are going to school full-time for the first time today. But critics say the government still hasn't figured out the A-B-Cs of running its ambitious all-day kindergarten program. About 600 schools are offering full-day kindergarten this fall and Premier Dalton McGuinty has promised it will be available to every child by 2015. In Norfolk Elgin Avenue, Langton, and Sacred Heart are offering the program. Annie Kidder, of the group People for Education, says the implementation of the program has left a lot to be desired. Only 10 to 15 per cent of schools will offer after-hours child care that was a key component of the original plan. Opposition parties say that's not the only problem. Conservative critic Elizabeth Witmer says some school boards are siphoning money from other areas in the scramble to fund full-day kindergarten. N-D-P critic Rosario Marchese says school boards are worried about the program because they aren't getting enough money from the government to pull it off.

A Brantford pilot has been honoured after his quick thinking prevented a potentially fatal crash. Back in October of last year, a shorted out windshield heater started to pour smoke out of his Jazz Air plane carrying 33 passengers. His windshield then began to shatter, but with some quick thinking, Paul Ivey was able to get the situation under control and land the plane. He has since been awarded at a special awards dinner given by the Air Line Pilots Association of Washington. He and his co-pilot were given the ALPA's Superior Airmanship Award.
