Deer will continue to graze at the Waterford Deer Park, for now. After it came to light in recent months that all the females from the herd at the park were wiped out by coyotes, Council had the suggestion put to them to turn the responsibility of the park over to another group, provided they could obtain the proper insurance. The park would otherwise be in jeopardy of closing down. Public Works and Environmental Services General Manager, Eric D'Hondt, says it's not just about the cost of re-populating or maintaining the group. He says there are significant liabilities to keeping it, like attacks, because they are not domesticated. Waterford Councilor, Harold Sonnenburg, says there's a group of people in Waterford that want to be part of a committee responsible for looking after the herd. Staff is going to bring back a report for the possible formation of this committee.
