Locals are being asked to use caution if they receive any "emergency" telephone calls asking them to send money. A Tillsonburg senior is the latest to report the "Emergency Scam", where someone calls on a poor telephone connection claiming to be a lawyer for a family member. They claim the person is in trouble and needs money right away for an accident, arrest, hospitalization or imprisonment. The victim is then asked to send money through Western Union or Money Gram. OPP are asking locals to be very suspicious of these types of calls and to take steps to verify the identity of the caller and the accuracy of their story by calling other family members.

Not even an eight million dollar expansion could entice Norwich High School students to transfer to Glendale High in Tillsonburg in the fall. As of June 1, only 6 Norwich students had signed up for Glendale compared to the 130 students switching school boards and heading to Delhi. This comes as Norwich prepares to close their doors at the end of the school year and the Thames Valley District School Board sending kids to Glendale or College Avenue Secondary in Woodstock. Even College Avenue has only had 35 Norwich students registered. It is good news for Grand Erie and DDSS though who only a few short years ago was in danger of closing. Vice Principal Alison High says the school is looking at conflict resolution with timetables at the moment but are looking forward to welcoming new students in the fall.
