The Simcoe Knights of Columbus is donating 500-dollars to NGH for it’s operating room revitalization project.

The Knights raised the money through their bingo night at the Simcoe Legion.

The donation was generated through bingo nights held on the second, third and fourth Mondays of each month at the Simcoe Legion.

Chris and Brooke Hass were told by doctors at McMaster Children’s hospital that daughter Kylie has a small tumour in her spine.

The Hass family has been struggling financially since the news broker and the parents have had to take several days off work.

There have been several fundraisers including one by the OPP, as well as a yard sale last weekend.

There were 26 athletes from the Simcoe Special Olympics and 26 constables in the 5.4-kilometre relay from Sprucedale Youth Centre to the McDonald’s on the Queensway.

A torch was passed from one athlete to another every 200 metres.

It’s a lead-up to the provincial games set for Kingston on the final weekend of may.

The torch run supports special olympians and the games they attend at the provincial, national and world levels.

The pilot of a small plane was able to safely land the aircraft in a Norfolk field, despite engine trouble.

Early Tuesday afternoon, police were called about a bright yellow plane that had just landed in a field at a Middleton Church Road address.

 There was minor damage to the plane, but the pilot wasn’t injured.

The pilot experienced trouble with the aircraft while flying to Port Burwell.

Police advised the National Transportation Safety Board about the incident.

A two year old girl from Simcoe named Kylie has been diagnosed with a  form of cancer called Leukemia A.L.L.

The family learned about this just after Easter.

We caught up with the girl’s father Chris Hass, who tells us Kylie is at home and is hanging in there.

They spent the last nine weeks living through the eyes of a police officer.

Now, the 25 people who attended the Norfolk OPP Citzens Police Academy have been honoured as Ambassadors of Ontario Provincial Police.

The Academy was designed to give those attending a better idea of what they do.

Contrary to the way some people think, they don’t just drive around handing out speeding tickets.

Happened yesterday afternoon on Gibson Drive.

Once inside, theives made off with the tools and a bike.

Police hope someone comes forward with information.

Meanwhile, police are also  investigating a break in at a First Concession Road address.

Sometime this week, someone broke into a barn and stole a chainshaw worth 400-dollars.

They’re the mayors of a temporary coaliton formed to lobby the province for changes, mayors including Norfolk’s Dennis Travale.

They say the province decides what to charge municipalities for the service, but without giving them any say about the numbers.

Now, they have an online presence as part of their ongoing lobbying efforts.

Despite this, Mayor Travale again notes no one has any complaints about the actual OPP performance…

An athlete will be stationed every 200 metres along the route, each athlete matched up with a law enforcement person.

The run supports special olympians, as well as provincial, national and world games they attend.

This year’s provincial competition is set for Kingston during the last weekend of May.

An Open House runs between 2pm and 8pm tonight and Constable Ed Sanchuk says it’s a great opportunity to meet some of our local police officers…

MADD personnel will be there and there’s a chance to take a tour of the police garage and possibly the cell area.
