A speech from Diane Finley is proof that the Prime Minister isn’t backing down from plans to revamp Old Age Security.
That’s despite some Tory caucus members’ concerns about a backlash from their constituents.
Our local MP confirmed the next budget will define major changes to O-A-S.
She told a business audience in Toronto that unless the government acts now, younger Canadians will face higher taxes and deficits or fewer social programs.

Those greedy seniors should learn to live on less! Harper needs this money for those f-35 jets that are becoming more expensive every day. Looks like we’ll need about $30 billion for these special jets to protect our arctic and the fact that they don;t work in the arctic should not be an issue!
Those $200 million/plane jets will help us wipe out all those terrorists that want to steal our arctic and these seniors are too old and too weak even to fight.
Way to go Harper and Diane – these blue hairs really don’t do much and are expendible and waste their OAS payments on dunb stuff like food, medicine and gifts for their grandkids. Who needs them anyway?
And if you refuse about 34,000 Canadian seniors their OAS for a year then you can buy one F-35. What a deal!!
no use either, if you are planning on calling Diane’s office. the guy working their.. the most iggnorant piece of work I have ever delt with. Must be a polictian!.. a mistake was made in re-electing this woman.. I mean selfish individual.
If they want some savings perhaps they could begin by reforming the MP’s gold plated pensions. Why do they deserve a pension that is above and beyond all other Canadians? Just because they sat in Parliament does not make them and more special or deserving than any other Canadian.
I agree with both comments above. These type of “Brain Waves” that they think will help are ridiculous. It is all about these jets and how much they can stuff into their already gold lined pockets. Harper is only trying to save his own pension instead of the seniors who obviously need it. $1000 – $1200 a month is no where near what they need to survive. Rising costs in food, shelter and transportation have already put our seniors in bad shape. So let’s take the rest of their money so they are completely broke and have nothing! Harper’s plans are no different then the snake across the boarder. Wake up folks, the government does not care what you think or feel or how you survive as long as they get what they want! I’d like for someone to name one positive thing Diane or Harper have done for you….I bet there isn’t anyone except those of you who believe in their lies and deceit. I myself have never supported a thing they have done and will not until they decide to bring themselves to a more common ground. Receiving a $60,000 + / Year pension for serving a four year term in office and ruining our economy and our country I don’t think deserves a pension. But that’s my opinion. Maybe they should receive the same when they are out of term and see how that helps them! I’m sure that would cut a lot of costs. Instead of cutting jobs I think wages within the government IE. Harper & Diane should be cut drastically. That will get them jets that we don’t need. Starting wars like the Bush’s & Obama is really just a drain. Nothing has ever come of these war’s except the states securing oil fields and some opium fields in the countries they have invaded. Now it’s Oil and Nuclear they are after. Why? Again to fill their already gold lined pockets. Sickening to think that some of these seniors they plan to cut have served in wars and they get the shaft as well. Great ole canadian government for you.
MP’s don’t colect pension unless 6 year terms are served…not 4.
