An update on Friday afternoon’s arrest of Gary McHale after another protest of the former Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia Friday afternoon.

It was for ‘prevent breach of the peace”.

Haldimand OPP made the arrest happened after two signs were placed at the entrance to the property.

McHale and 7 others were arrested last month at a similar protest at the same site.

This guy is a menace to Caledonia! It sure appears like he is hoping to incite a riot or something.

  2. Racism of any sort should no be tolerated. I’m surprised the “Never Again Group” is involved with this issue. That sign this group posted on the telephone pole was beyond disgusting, but including Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty in the slur, was deeply offesive.

One should read Christie Blatchford’s book “Helpless” for some context.

What people don’t realize is that, if we don’t speak up, we won’t be heard. This man is the voice of hundreds of people who live in Caledonia and the immediate surrounding area of the Douglas Creek Estates. He was arrested because he erected two signs at the entrance of the DCE…..WHY? If someone else were to put those signs up at a different location in Caledonia, I highly doubt there would’ve been an arrest, so what is the exception here? This makes my furious!

    • S. Ferguson says:

The police have to consider whether erecting two signs is a peaceful protest or a pointless act with the sole purpose of causing trouble. With this nut it’s the second choice, hands down. Your comment makes “my” furious!!

      • MySay says:

He is here to prove a point, not to cause controversy. He is here to prove that there is no protection, that there is no sense of safety.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!! This is not just a Caledonia issue. Land in Norfolk County was offered to the natives to encourage them to remove the hydro tower blockade from Argyle Street!!! The leader of the provincial Tories wants an inquiry into the leniant sentence of a native thug for the senseless, brutal beating of a builder who was on his own land!! Is Tim Hudek a racist? Would it be s**t disturbing if McHale protested two tiered policing if it were organized crime, terrorism, or bike gangs involved? The sad part of the whole thing is that he is looking out for the interests of every Canadian, including his detractors!!!!! Read HELPLESS to have an informed opinion of what Gary McHale stands for.

    • Al says:

Perhaps we need an inquiry every time there is a “lenient sentence” anywhere in Canada?

Go gary! You have all our support. Congrats on making the opp look foolish again. We need more like you around. You should consider moving to norfolk and lend a hand cleaning up the mess finley barrett and the rest have made here! Go gary!!

  7. S. Ferguson says:

This guy is a complete **** disturber. He has no productive way of accomplishing his message.

    • Al says:

I’d have to agree with you 100%. I am willing to bet that 95% of Caledonia residents agree with that as well. Of course the few who don’t that post on here certainly can’t bear the thought of that being true.

    • Jason says:

What Gary needs is more people like himself!…….I am joining his band of “outlaws”…..enough is enough….is enough!

  8. Medusa says:

Where is this guy getting the money to live on and pay his fines? He certainly seems to be on a mission.

    • Bob says:

maybe the developers or building contractor’s????
Whom stands to gain or loose the most from his actions….

  9. flatout says:

you have to stand for something or you will fall for anything this DCE thing has gone on to long they did not have a peaceful protest a few years back REMEMBER the power outage that cost millions in damage and vandalism

  10. Aussie says:

Dittos on reading Christie Blatchford’s book, ‘Helpless”. Seriously, if you have not read it, you really need to. It will change your opinion on many aspects of this whole sad affair. While McHale may be a bit rough around the issues, upon reading the book, I realized, he really is not wrong. We Canadians don’t like conflict and we don’t know how to accomplish what needs to be done in Caledonia. Apathy and ignoring the situation is not the answer. McHale’s tactics may not be either, but, at least he keeps the story in the news. Otherwise, it slips farther and farther down the radar and all the politicians can clap their hands with glee that no one cares.

  11. Leasa says:

We need more people to stand up for what they believe in. I give credit to Gary. Imagine if Canadians were not only willing to stand up for equal and fair justice, but on other issues like child abuse and lax punishments for serious crimes. That brings to mind the story of baby Angelica in Toronto. Four years ago her parents left her in a parking lot on a frigid night to freeze to death alone. By a miracle the baby was discovered by a passer-by and she was hospitalized and saved. In our Canadian courts, the mother was fined and the dad got time served (two for one). The couple returned to Jamaica and had another baby two years ago. Last week the two year old boy was found in his parent’s apartment in a suitcase dead. Just think if more Gary’s had stood up and fought against such lax sentencing. Perhaps, the tragic death of that little boy never would have happened? I admire anyone who stands by their principles and is willing to stick their necks out for us all. I can’t fault the man for that reason.

    • Al says:

Face it, he is a menace to the community just like the natives who occupied the site. We don’t need him or the natives stirring up trouble. If you admire him that much why don’t you go down and stand with him next time?

    • sux2bu says:

Leasa, I don’t always agree with your comments (I admit it), but this really has nothing to do with the article.

      Just sayin’…..

  12. Bob says:

Never mind reading a book how about treaties ?
Certainly Haldimand council has not even done that, or building permits would adhear to the treaties singed before most of us where born.

Gary really needs to get a life, or he is being paid by the builders to sturr it up,
any way you want to look at it he is not helping aggravating a situation to get your name in the news is not what a man of honour does when the real attention needs to be directed to a resolution not a revolution….

Read the treaties and then ask your local official why so many tax dollars are being wasted on an issue that is so black and white on paper sign by our government many millions of dollars ago.

Peace and Happiness upon you all…..

  13. Medusa says:

Any guy who is such an irritation to the government, occupying natives, the court system and a number of OPP commissioners and still be walking around must be doing something right.

He made Julian Fantino look like an incompetent puppet. I am glad that we are out of Afghanistan becasue the new Associate Minister of National Defence (Fantino) would have our forces with their backs to the Taliban and rifles trained on NATO.

    Go Gary Go!

I’m behind you – way behind you!

  14. the people,s elbow says:

Hey Bob, read the story. It is clear to me that McHale has had little to say about the land claim issue and, as I see it, tried to point out that there is and has been a two tiered justice and policing policy in Caledonia. If this is true, then what is stopping a similar situation from occurring in your neighbourhood? You really cannot see the big picture here?

  15. Aussie says:

The issue in Caledonia is not about treaties. Once again, for those of you who think you know all, then you obviously have not read “Helpless”. I certainly do not dispute that fact that the Federal Government needs to step up and deal with treaty issues across the country. The issue of Caledonia is how the OPP, under both Bonaface and Fantino, told the rank and file OPP officer to disregard the law. All anyone wants to know is who told them to do that? Why did Bonaface suddenly leave Canada and move to Ireland? There are many unanswered questions that only (cough, cough McGuinty) knows the answers too. People have to get over the notion this is a First Nations vs. everyone else. It is not.
