Elderly spinster sisters Abby and Martha operate a pleasant, respectable rooming house in mid-town New York, assisted by an eccentric brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt. However, what their roomers don’t understand, until it’s too late, is that they will never leave their lodgings alive, once they’ve had a taste of their host’s deadly elderberry wine. The laughs start when their nephew desperately tries to make them realize that the ladies are not doing “charity work” by poisoning their lonely roomers and burying them in the basement. A classic comedy that continues to find new audiences.
