The Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie is reporting a light gain in jobs in the area. Out of 104 employers surveyed in February, 72 net jobs were gained - 44 of those in manufacturing. Meanwhile, the number of people in Norfolk and across Canada receiving regular Employment Insurance benefits has dropped for the time in seven months. Stats Canada says recipients declined by two per cent in January to just over 640,000, with the biggest drop coming here in Ontario.

It’s neat the way they play with numbers. If your EI benefits run out and you are forced to go on family assistance ( welfare ) you are no longer considered unemployed. You are off the federal or provincial books and are now on the municipal payroll I guess.
Where are these fantom new jobs?? EI numbers would be lower with the running out of benefits for those whos plants have been closed and for those who went back to work due to a lock out.
