| Love them or hate them - cell phones (and their towers) - are a part of our community - but council is working to protect the county while making sure users are happy with their service. The Bell Mobility transmitter on top of the Port Dover water tower is in need of an upgrade to improve signal in the area - but that will mean the County has to sign a new lease. Port Dover Councillor John Wells thinks before they sign a legal contract Norfolk needs to work in an out-clause so that if any health related modifications need to be made in the future - or that transmitter needs to be moved - the county won't be stuck holding the bill. Concerns over the Union Street Water Tower antenna in Simcoe have been brought before council over a dozen times. Industry Canada testing has found that cell phone transmitter is 10 thousand times below Safety Code 6 levels - but many argue it's too soon to tell what the long term health affects may be. In the meantime Council has decided to deffer the decision to modify the Port Dover lease. |
